This advanced-level workshop is tailored for participants who have previously completed the DOT Pipeline Compliance Workshop and are seeking a deeper dive into complex regulatory and technical subjects. Building on foundational knowledge, the course offers a detailed examination of pipeline safety regulations under 49 CFR Parts 192 and 195. Ideal for compliance managers, regulatory specialists, engineers, and experienced operations personnel, this course equips participants with the tools and insights needed to navigate evolving compliance expectations and apply industry best practices to manage regulatory risk effectively.

What you will learn

In this intensive and interactive 3-day in-person workshop, participants will build upon their existing knowledge to explore advanced topics in gas and liquid pipeline regulations, engineering principles, and compliance management. The training focuses on real-world application of Pipeline and Hazardous Safety Administration (PHMSA) requirements, enforcement protocols, and audit readiness. To reinforce key concepts, the workshop includes interactive student group exercises and scenario-based activities designed to promote practical problem-solving.

Mr. Chris McLaren

Mr. Chris McLaren is a seasoned expert in pipeline integrity management with over 30 years of experience. He has contributed to the development and implementation of Integrity Management Inspection Programs and gained specialized knowledge in pipeline compliance, including regulations related to integrity assessments, risk analysis, and corrosion control. Chris’s expertise spans program audits, integrity assessments, risk analysis, and corrosion control, where he has guided operators in aligning their practices with federal and state regulations. In addition to his technical expertise, Chris is a highly regarded public speaker, known for delivering insightful presentations on pipeline safety and compliance. Earlier in his career, he worked as a consultant to the hazardous liquid and natural gas pipeline industry, offering services as a metallurgical and integrity engineer. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Colorado School of Mines.

Mr. Erich Trombley

Mr. Trombley has over three decades of experience in the natural gas industry.  An engineering professional with extensive experience in pipeline safety regulatory compliance (Title 49 CFR Parts 190, 191, 192, 193 & 196), Anti-Drug and Alcohol Misuse prevention plans (Title 49 CFR Parts 199 & 40), distribution integrity management, O&M of distribution and transmission pipelines, LNG facilities, and failure investigation.  He serves on the Board of Directors of the Western Regional Gas Association and is a voting member of the ANSI GPTC Z380 Gas Piping Technology Committee. Mr. Trombley holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from California Polytechnic University, Pomona, and is a licensed Professional Engineering in the State of California in Mechanical Engineering.
